The
Chenango Valley Stamp Club was organized November 2, 1951 when a small
group met at the home of Dr. Rodney Mott in Hamilton. The charter
members, besides Dr. Mott were Emery Bauer, Perrine Rockafellow, William
Everts, Emest Betts, and Devere Card, with Mr. Bauer as Permanent
Chairman and Mr. Rockafellow, Secretary.
Later
meetings were held at the home of the charter members until September
1953 when the membership had outgrown the homes and it was decided
to meet in the high school cafeteria. In the fall of 1957, meetings
were moved to the Alton Lounge in the Student Union Building on the
Colgate University campus, and then to the Alana Cultural Center at
the university. The club formerly participated in CINCOPEX, a discontinued
annual exhibition rotating between Sidney, Hamilton, Rome, Sherrill,
and Utica.
